Fergana State Technical University: Transport system to ease and stability

Today, one of the urgent issues is development of public transport system and modernization of road transport infrastructure in Fergana. Researches in this area are intended to expand the access to transport services to the population, create safe and comfortable conditions, and contribute to the economic development of the city. Modernization of transport systems is important not only for passenger convenience, but also for maintaining ecological balance, efficient management of the urban environment, adapting to modern urbanization processes. Therefore, the research carried out in this area is considered to be useful and relevant for the general public.

On November 24, 2023, in accordance with the agreement No8 concluded between Fergana State Technical University and the Ferghana Regional Transport Department, the "General Plan for the Development of Transport and Road Infrastructure of Fergana City" was developed. This study was carried out in accordance with the Presidential Decree No. PD-59 of February 16, 2023.

Many professors, teachers, doctoral students, undergraduates and students of the faculty of mechanics and mechanical engineering of the university actively participated in scientific research for a year and a half. The master plan that was created as a result of the study consists of two main parts:

Master plan for improving public transport system and infrastructure in Fergana city;

"Road map" for its implementation.

The Master Plan includes the following areas:

development of solutions for 8 problem areas in the city;

coordination of intersections in 6 main transport corridors;

proposals for the regulation of freight and transit traffic;

a plan to create 17 new public transport routes;

Development of transport traffic forecasts for the next 7–10 years.

International experience was also learned in the process. In particular, modern transport management systems used in cities in Turkey, Malaysia and China were analyzed, and it was proposed to develop models adapted to the conditions of Fergana. Also, innovative ideas such as the use of environmentally friendly vehicles, introduction of electric buses, traffic management by intelligent systems were also included in the master plan.

Significantly the results achieved within the frame of research works are:

The daily traffic flow on 7 main highways has been studied in detail;

proposals have been developed for the organization of 17 new public transport routes;

coordinated solutions were developed for 8 problem areas in the city;

The efficiency of intersections in 6 transport corridors was calculated;

surveys were conducted among thousands of respondents on the population's use of transport services;

Development forecasts have been prepared for the next 7–10 years based on traffic flow modeling.

The results obtained within the framework of research work are also noticeable in terms of numbers:

  1. Daily traffic flow on 7 main highways was studied;
  2. 17 new public transport routes proposed;
  3. coordinated solutions were developed on 8 problem areas;
  4. The efficiency of intersections in 6 transport corridors was calculated;
  5. Thousands of respondents took part in surveys on the use of public transport services.

Based on these indicators, the possibility of development of the city's transport system in the next 7-10 years is predicted. The following table provides a clear example:

As a result of this initiative, significant changes are expected to occur in the city's transportation system. Students, faculty, and the city community took an active part in this process. The master plan will achieve more accessible, safe and regular functioning of public transport systems. It is also envisaged to regulate the flow of traffic, improve the environmental environment and provide high-quality services for residents of the city.

The document, created as a result of the cooperation of Fergana State Technical University and the regional transport department, serves as a long-term strategic roadmap for the city. In the future, when the funds are fully disbursed, the macro and micro models will be further refined, the project will go up to a higher stage in terms of quality.

These works are considered as the most important step towards the sustainable development of the city, creation of a modern, environmentally friendly and safe transport system for the population. At the same time, this project serves to improve the practical experience of students, further develop the scientific potential of professors and teachers, as well as the formation of new innovative approaches in the field of transport management.
